Skype Click to Call plug-in bug generates an issue with Copy/Cut+Paste on Windows

Hi folks,

just to share with you an unpatched bug of the Skype Click to Call plug-in that is screwing the Windows Copy/Cut+Paste functionality.

When you install Skype an additional component is either installed, the Click to Call plug-in. After this your Copy/Cut+Paste will no longer work correctly. You should start seeing that you can only Paste in “text only format”, the Paste Options (e.g. “Keep original format”) in your Word, Excel, etc will no longer appear, imagine that you copy and paste RichText or HTML content while doing CTRL+C and CTRL+V, you will notice that only the Text is parsed and not the Rich or HTML content.

This was driving me nuts, while I was trying to copy an Excel Table to an html Email message on Outlook only the table text values were parsed and the whole table was missing. I’ve also noticed that if I did Cut+Paste on any Office 2010 Apps during the Paste the original content was not discarded which means that Cut was working like Copy.

I confirm the issue on Windows 8 CP and Windows 7, I haven’t tried other Windows versions but I believe that may be either impacted by Skype Click to Call plug-in.

Until this bug is fixed by Skype you should go to the Add/Remove Programs and Remove the Skype Click to Call plug-in, reboot and everything will be back to normal
